I have had my 65watt pc going for about 4 days now over my 20 g. I have noticed that the coraline on the rocks has changed slightly, a lighter shade appears in dots all over, and on some parts, patches of it have white rings around them. I can't tell if that means its receding, or growing. before when It was bleached out during a power outage, it just turned white, so I can't tell what exactly is going on now. It seems, however, an area the light is not hitting is just solid purple, so it must be the higher lighting that is affecting it, but It just seems stange that the color is lighter/different and spotty.

Any insight is much appreciated

Thanks

Ok, that makes sense, thanks.

what about the white edge on the patches(for example on the snail shells)?

Depending on the intensity of the light, it will determine the color. Also, changes in lighting will give you a period where the coraline will need to adjust. I remember I had great growth, changed lights and almost lost it all. :)

Coralline algae often has an adverse response when you change your light fixture .. thats normally because coralline prefers subdued lighting and everyone "upgrades" their lighting which usually places some stress on the coralline. In the long run it usually doesn't matter that much and the coralline will recover.
