I just noticed for the first time in my sump about an inch long almost blood red worm. It has the smallest (almost not visible) legs/bristles and the center line of its body is what looks like a black line. Does anyone know what this is? Is it a bristle worm? I would take a photo but my camera doesn't take that great of close ups. I'm pretty sure it hitch hiked on a chunk of Chaeto.

Doesn't sound like anything I've ever seen especially the size! Here's a bump back to the top. Good luck! :)

Just to clarify the black line runs almost the full length of the worm. The worm appears somewhat translucent so the black line isn't on the outside of the worm but more or less a dark area that comes from within the worm itself, most likely just the insides of the worm.

sounds like the baby bristle worms that are in my fuge. the very small ones are red.

so far my tank has been really good at growing bristle worms and amphipods.

most everything you read says they are pests, but I have never seen them bother anything. they come out at feeding time and clean things up.

I have 1 that is probably 9" and 1/2" thick. I have several in the 4"-6" range. coral banded shrimp and arrow crabs are supposed to eat them.

there are others with a lot more experience than me that may have a different opinion.
