when using a reactor is there any othere reason to dose the tank?

I'm assuming your talking about calcium reactors? If so, then the answer is yes.

I have occassionally dosed calcium supplements to bring my calcium levels up to the desired level. Most calcium reactors will raise Alk/Dkh to a certain level, (varies from system to system), but will only maintain calcium levels at whatever point the system is at when the reactor is brought online. The only exception to that (that I'm aware of) is the Schuran reactors. I have read annecdotal reports that the Schuran's can raise calcium levels.

I also dose Magnesium periodically, to keep it at appropriate levels.

With a properly sized calcium reactor and correct media you can run without additional dosing.
