recirculating protein skimmer ?

I'm guessing that the advantage of a recirc skimmer over a non-recirc is the increased exposure time of the bubbles as they fight against the recirculating water and this increased exposure creates a more efficient filter. Is this the main advantage and what are other pros and cons for the recirculating design ??

thats pretty much it. with a recirc, the pump uses all its energy mixing the air and water inside the skimmer body. you can also control the amount of water that enters the skimmer so you basically control the amount of time the water is exposed to the air in the skimmer.

On the traditional style skimmer all you can control is the amount of air and usually the height of the water level in the skimmer. water flows in and out at the rate set by the pump.
