Hi everyone !!
I have a problem inside of my tank and it's call red slime i'm sick and tired of it and i don't know what to do. I tried by switching the light bulbs and cleaning the tank 2 times a week. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO !! :( i just know it's pissing me off and i want it out of my tank. I also don't know if is it because i only have one crab and one snail left  do you guys think it could be that? or if you know what i could do... PLEASE let me know.
Thank you everyone

Find out what is feeding the red slime. and remove it from the water or substrate and it will go away. if you have test kits test all parameters and post the results. I.E. SALINITY/TEMP/PH/DKh/ Amonia/nitrite/nitrate/phosphate/ calcium. All that good jazz. What kind of fish. how many. what size. how much food. how often water changes and what size. ro water rodi water or tap? I'm sure you know it doesn't just fall out the sky into your tank. There is a root cause. Testing will find it. Then you can create a plan to remove it. Hope it helps

Well this is what happened.
My boyfriend used to take care of the fish tank but then 2 months ago he got lazy about it and stopped doing it which i believe that was the cause. I didn't know anything about fish tanks until he tought me how to clean the tank and take care of the fishes, so now i'm the one who does everything but now the problem is that the red slime is there. i change the water 2 times a week and every time i change it, i remove the red slime.
i have checked the water with the test kits and now everything looks fine now. The only thing that i'm guessing is that it could be growing back because i only have one crab and one snail, so they don't get eaten but i don't know if that could be.
I also have noticed that the red slime are bunch of red kind of looking worms that move around so they hide in the live rocks that i have, but ya .. I WILL FIND THE WAY !! to get rid of it somehow hehe, so thank you very much i will continue trying to kill it :)

Tell us a bit about your tank, that will really help us to find the cause for you. tell us stuff like, how big is the tank, how much Live rock, any sand, what kind of filters, what kind of flow and so on. Also do you have any test kits, like for Phosphate or nitrates??

Mike

Are you using tap water?

The red "slime" is most likely cyanobacteria. It loves phosphates, this is usually the cause of cyano blooms.

Mike

MikeS is right, you have cyano big time. I would check for phosphates, make sure your light bulbs arent older than 10-12 months and consider using DI water to do some water changes. I have also used a product called Boyds chemi-pure that worked good for me. A bag of phospate remover couldnt hure either.

What are the details on your system? Ie: skimmer? Live rock? etc......

well i have 60 pounds of live rock, my filter is a wet/dry filter, i have pretty god flow, i have live sand and my filter its a thyats a RO/DI filter ohh and my tank its a 39 gallons tank.
I cheched the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, the ph and the alkalinity and it seems fine, so what i'm gonna do i guess its i'm gonna buy the product you said its call boyds chemi pute and see if it works which it problably will i hope hehe
