Have decided to reduce light on a regular schedule, based on various posts on subject here.

day 1 - 250w 10K MH off
day 2 - 10K vho off
day 3 - actinics off
day 4 - actinics on
day 5 - 10K on
day 6 - MH on

will do in conjuction with regular water changes which I do every 10 days (25 gal.) - (maybe do every other change) - now just have to decide on whether to implement reduced light period before, during, after (?) water exchange.

Any thoughts?

If all your keeping is softies, you can just use your VHO's & everything will do well/ What is your goal by this reduction?

Well that is reasonable, also like I said you don't need MH If your only keeping softies or if your tank isn't so deep, that would be a waste also. You have to consider what you want to keep & understand the lighting needs, this isn't new.

Am always trying to learn more about what will make my tank inhabitants feel more confortable in their artificial environment. - Even "high light" animals may need a break from it now and then.

See from reefcentral thread...decide for yourself.

No lights for 3 days every couple of months works wonders!
