Alright well we have been talking about it for awhile now, and in the background the Mods have been working their tails off, Sooooo here is the update. We have either purchased or upgraded 7 different software types and then added many modifications, SEO software, and similar, we have also set up adwords campaigns and other various means in which to get some more activity and traffic back to RF.
Anyway I know we touched on the date prior, but the hard work has paid off, so I can tell you sometime over the next 4-5 days the board will be shut down and then reopened with all things completed and hopefully bug free.

I will list the things we will be doing on this upgrade.

>A full customizing of the board overall with a much richer look and fully featured with all the latest gadgets that VB has.

> The coral/ member and fish gallery will be upgraded and customized to the latest version of the software, along with all the new features that encompases.

>The Front page will be completely torn up and a whole new platform will be installed, this will have a whole host of features, which will have an article based creation format, interfaces with all parts of the board, facebook, Google, blogs (yes you can now have blogs) and about a hundred other features that we will leave as a surprise.

> The Buy and Sell forums will be history and off the board, but in its place we will introduce our new classifieds software which should really make all you traders very happy, its a real cool system.

>Full Chat feature, that will be up full time.

> A webinar series where we will invite well known speaker to come online and do their presentations for the membership in an online webinar.

>We will bring back the Workshop series, where DonW will create a project using materials supplied by us on some kind of Reef related item (from stands to skimmers and so on), during the project all of the memebers following or participating in the workshop will have their name entered and we will have a draw at the end of the project.

>We are also working on getting a few more highly qualified mods to come in and run particular specialty forums, to try and enhance that forums knowledge ad activity.

Anyway I am sure their is more, but thats all I can think of at the moment.

Wish us luck

Mojo

This is going to be wonderful everyone. Mike and Scott have worked very hard on this along with the rest of the mods. I am very impressed with what I have seen.
Our hobby is about to get a whole lot cooler :)

I am Looking forward to all the upcoming changes! The RF staff deserves a round of applause for their countless hours dedicated to a forum that I am proud to call HOME.

Honestly, Mike deserves this, he hasn't slept in two weeks!
Really, Mike is the one to thank, our part was easy compared to all of the stuff he's dealt with the past few weeks.

Yea right! Their is no one to stand out more then any other here, its why we call it a community board, we all either suceed or fail as a group. To be honest it hasnt been all that bad, I would imagine it will be a little nerve racking when doing the swap, but we will live. Hopefully their will be lots of love if I hit the wrong button

Zombie's don't sleep, Mike will be just fine. Okay, in all seriousness, Mike, Kudos to you on all your hard work!!!

Let's figure out a way to inform everyone of how the progress is going, while the forums are down. We could use our Facebook Fan page for that.

Also, is there anything members need to back up, before this process begins?

Will the pictures that are currently on the galleries be saved? Some people use the Reef Frontiers gallery as a way to store their photos.

Will the upgrade delete all PMs? Do PMs need to be backed up, by members?

Subscribed threads? How will the upgrade effect those?

You know Skimmer I had two that were as big as that at one time, they were RK2's though

Ok Sid.

I will leave that up to you, I got my hands full

No we will have the site fully backed up in case something happens and we have to revert. Although at some point the for sale forums will be shut down and removed, so they will have to transfer current sales over. But I think I will give a few days after the upgrade to do that.

Nothing will be lost and we will have backups

Not sure but I dont see why they would, but I will look into it
