Cy, I may want to try another salt mix and would like to know what are you using/recommend for a Reef? Would like to start with one that offers consistent and higher levels of AK,CAL, and MG.

Thanks... Ron

Hey Ron,

You might want to check out aragaMIGHT!

Just use it to Auto Top Off your tank and it will keep the levels up there.
1 16oz bottle treats 300 gallons for about a month.

I used it to replace my Kalk in my Kalk Reactor. Tons Cheaper and it boosts the CA, MAG, and a few others.

Very easy to use and tons cheaper then going to more expensive salt to boost your levels.

Interesting product Saltyfish. I did a search and found some reviews. I will put this down on the consideration side. I currently use C-Balance Parts A-B to help with Calcium and Alk. Doesn't help with Mg. I was thinking of getting an Mg additive.

better start dosing magnesium...thats what i have been using for the past 5 months just c-balance until low mag hits my tank and lost several lps...always check your water param..

Io has been around over 35 years, used by the largest public aquariums, IMO use what is readily avaliable. Test before adding anything otherwise you can actually throw everything out of balance.

I would say that Instant Ocean sells the most but we have switched the entire store over to Tunze Salt. Many people have switched over to it and seem happy. They are currently undergoing packaging changes so there are no buckets or large boxes. Just 63 gallon mix bags. Here are the measurements we get when testing it with Elos Test Kits.

pH- 8.3
Calcium- 470
dKH- 9.5
Mg- 1350
Phosphate- 0
Nitrate- 0

Brightwells new salt, Neo Marine, looks promising as does Seachems new AquaVitro Salinity.

All, thanks for your input.

Cy, before I try another salt, I want you to check my parameters. I recently picked up a PinPoint PH Monitor. I also use API and ELOS. There is enough of a difference between the three that I am not sure what my PH is. This got me started down the path of questioning my salt (IO). A new batch is coming in at 7.90 after calibrating the monitor three times. API around 8.1 and ELOS around 8.3. Still, Cal is around 380, Alk is about 8, which I think is low.

I plan to swing by this afternoon... Ron

Cy, no worries. Chris took care of me. Determined my Pin Point Monitor was off and this is after calibrating it three times before bringing it in. Decided to buy one from you, Chris calibrated and it is working. correctly. I purchased Brightwell Mag and Tunze salt mix. I started Mag tonight and have moved it from 1050 to 1150. I am shooting for 1350. PH is at 7.9, Dk at 8.0. I want to get the Mag up before I start the water change. I expect the PH, Dk to move up.

Let me know if you have any suggestions. Ron

I hear good things about tunze salt but i went with neomarine which gives me the best parameters i can ask for :).....keep us updated on how the tunze does for ya!
