We have had countless reefers test their refracts using a std. Many but not all are right on using the std and need no re-calibration.

Good info. I have two of the blue ones from premium. One was adjusted by the local lab it tested perfect the other was adjusted using rodi and it read 1.024 with the pipoint solution.

Nope, should be one part 35 ppt and 2 parts FW

(1.026 +1.0 + 1.0) / 3 = 1.009 or 12 ppt (hypo)

(1.026 + 1.026 + 1.0) / 3 = 1.017 or 23 ppt

After our last discussion on this topic, I purchased some Pinpoint Salinity Calibration Soln, and my RHS-10ATC refractometer measured right on..Whew!

*ahem*....have you forgotten there are girls on this board? lol. A wife is good for many things.....we make you thankful you get to leave the house and go to work everyday . Admit it Scooty....you'd be lost without your other half . Have you had your daily dose of Estrogen today? :lol:

I still haven't set up everything enough yet to really find out where I'm at on my refract. I'm running my tank in Hypo right now as the only thing I have in it is a few hermits, I don't know when I'll get more LR & lights etc needed to keep anything so I'll wait till then to calibrate mine.

Well today I finally adjusted my Sybon with some Pinpoint 53.0 mS fluid, it was just slightly off It read 34.5 ppt from when i used RO/DI! Now I have an almost full bottle of solution that probably won't need until the fluid is no longer good LOL
Anyway I finally did it So now Boomer don't go telling me that there is a new standard out & I have to start all over again!!

Well of course there is a new std didn't tell you :lol: The issue is Scoot some are on some are off a tad and same are way off. It is just a Chinese thing you have to expect, just like the toothpaste and dog food

ive got one of those salinity meters from pinpoint, and i noticed that the meter fluctuates often. do u guys own one of these? i calibrated with the solution and backed it up with a refractometer. when i sit the pinpoint in calibration its steady 53mS. when i stick inside the tank it would start fluctuating. could it be flow, or temp causing it? it sits midway towards left side of aquarium...just curious
also, ive been running my skimmer wet and noticed that my salinity would dip a little from the automated kalk reactor topoff. how do u you guys combat salinity fluxuations in your display tank?
