I'm adding a 15 gallon refugium to my 300 gallon. Yes its a little small, just want to put a dent in nitrates with DSB and algae.

I can get flow from two sources.

1. T off my 1.5" return

2. T off my overflow

Somewhere I read that using overflow water will eventually gunk up the refugium and that its better to use the skimmed return water.

Any thoughts on which would be best?

My goal is just to lower nitrates and phosphates. Maybe cut down on water changes.

Thanks!

I use a T off my return to feed my fuge and I just sort of let it trickle in. It's a 20 gallon and I'm guessing it turns over 3-5 times an hour. Basically the same as my sump. I also run a couple of K1's to move create extra flow for my cheato ball since it likes higher flow.
