So I have a 29g refugium for my 36 gallon tank, but so far I have only been able to afford about 15 pounds of live rock so far. I DO have approximately 4 boxes of ceramic noodles... would these be useable? or would it just cause problems? My refugium is only to house some chaeto, grow pods, and increase my live rock to fish ratio.

thanks!

Hello,

15 lbs will work with a lite side bio load of small fish and coral. You could use the other bio media and remove some when you add more rock or coral on piece of rock. You could also add some dry rock later and in time will turn live:) You have several options if you go/stock slow. You want to give your refugium time to grow too.

Oops sorry, i only have 15 lbs of rock in the refugium, i have close to 40 lbs in the display tank. is normal rock inherently better than ceramic tubes in a refugium?

You have enough live rocks for you whole setup. The ceramic rings won't do anything more for your tank except give different areas for your beneficial bacteria to live on. IMO you should save your media for another occasion. Live rocks are suppose to be better since they are porous and house anaerobic bacteria (makes nitrAtes go away). Your media does not do the same thing.
