Refugium substrate

I am putting in a new sump in my fish room and I was wondering if Miracle Mud is the best substrate that I can put in the refugium portion? Is it all hype or is it as good as they say. I have heard it is a waste of money and also that it is great stuff.

I tried miracle mud once.
Didn't like it. Every time something happened in the refugium, it would send clouds of detritus or whatever into the display tank.
It was just a pita.
Since then I've always gone bare bottom.

Ditto for me! Tried it about 8-9 years ago....nothing but trouble!
