Hi,
I am going to purchase a Quiet One 3000 pump which has a 1" threaded male connector and I want to connect it to a 95 gal wave all glass tank. The bulkhead on the tank is 3/4'' barbed connector. What is the most sensible way to connect these two? I want to make it as simple as possible to have as few connection points that can leak. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I like to use simple PVC Plumbing parts and Spa flex is great too, it is easier and fewer joints..

Well, it is a bit hard to say unless I knew your exact routing situation but I use a combination of hard (sched 40) and Kanaflex tubing for my plumbing. PVC cement is easy to use and I rarely if every have a leaky joint. The trick is wipe clean/dry your tubing, use the medium body cement(clear is neatest), cement both sides of joint, and give it a 1/4 turn twist. You should never get a leak.

I should have added... Most of the time you need to not to hold it but sometimes... and a good rule of thumb... is to hold it 20 seconds.

Welcome to RF! :)

Can the barbed connector on the 3/4 bulkhead me removed? If not, you will have to use a hose to connect the two together rather than pvc as pvc can't be attached to a barbed fitting. So all you'd really need to do is to convert your pumps 1 inch male threaded connector to a 3/4 inch barbed fitting and clamp the hose on both ends. If you can't find the necessary fitting, you can see if a 1 inch hose can be clamped tight enough on the 3/4 barbed fitting without leaking and if so, just get a 1 inch barbed fitting for the pump instead (which will probably be easier to find) and clamp the 1 inch hose on both ends. Just a thought...By reducing the output of the pump that little bit won't hurt the pump. It's reducing the input you don't want to do. Good luck!:)

BTW...I just remembered my Quiet One's came with the hose barbed fitting and so should yours have as well so you'd just need a hose to attact to the pump's hose barbed fitting and the bulkhead's barbed fitting. Here's a pic of the fittings next to the pump. You will probably have to maximize the pic to see it clearly:)

Thanks, I did not know that the Quiet One pump came with a barbed connector. That simplifies things a little bit, thank you guys for your help!
