Hi, I'm new to this hobby. I've done a lot of reading and talking to the Barrier Reef guys (which have been great). I seem to collect a lot of junk in my sump. I was wondering what you guys thought about the sump setup. I cant seem to remove the left box and rid it of gunk. The skimmer is hidden behind the cabnit. It's the Vertex 100, and the tank is 100gal. I run carbon and phos remover, and a 1/4hp chiller. The pump is a mag 18. 80lbs rock, 40lbs sand, 4 T12's. I would like to get a halide bar, but the tank is 5' long, and am having a little trouble finding one to fit not to mention the 6" canopy issue. Any ideas I'm open for an any help I can get. Like I've said I've only read enough to be really dangerous. Thanks, Matt.

for the junk in the sump you could either syphon it out or run a small power head in there and hope the skimmer catches it all or atleast most of it.

for the halide and short canopy issue diy is the best way you can always make a new canopy which is higher and i would add fans in the canopy with halides or t5 which ever you go. one blowing in and one blowing out intake exhaust theory. that will be the best way.

Lol did you spray paint your rocks purple? That is awesome coralline growth! Tank looks good all around

looks great. If you want to upgrade your lighting, you may just want to replace your T12's with T5's and maybe add 1 or 2 more bulbs than you have now. I wouldn't use halides in that hood as you may run in to some heat issues and you would probably need them 8-10" off the water. That would mean a new hood or hanging a fixture.

If you can afford it, look at the ATI fixtures. I have 2 of the sunpower fixtures and they put out a TON of par and look great also.
