where is a cheap place to buy the sediment and carbon filters??? i bought my unit from Filterdirect..they have the first 3 filters(sediment, carbon, and carbon) for $25..has anyone found them any cheaper??? i have the RO 6100+DI

that's funny..i was just thinking......."i bet Don will reply when he sees a thread about RO/DI!!!!!!!!! i always see you on those threads:D

I get mine from Home Depot or Lowes...

Just get an "in-line" used for a fridge - works like a champ.

And only $10-15 (and no shipping).

My $0.00000000000000002

i am worried about my RO/DI unit..it is putting out 5g every 2 hours..so for 24 hrs, it is only putting out 60g..it is supposed to put out 110gpd..the filters are amost brand new...i replaced all the filters about 2 months ago..i also replaced the sediment filter 2 days ago....does this sound strange???

i just removed this fitting that i was wondering about..several of them came with the unit..i have no idea what they are or what they do..the instructions that came with the unit were very vague..they never said where the fittings went, so i just guessed..well they were restricting the flow, i think..i just removed them and it is putting out almost double what it was putting out earlier..i am posting a link to a page full of fitting..it is called a 1/4 plug stem..this looks just like what came with my unit, except mine are not plugs...they are hollow, but the hole isn't very big and it restricts the flow..does anyone know what these fittings are and what they are for???????????????????????????
ok..update..i just unscrewed another line to see if it had one and i put it back just how it was..now it seems to be hardly putting anything out???????

That sounds about right - if you water pressure isn't above 60 psi and the water you are putting into it is cold. "Ratings" are just estimates and have a lot to do with temp and pressure.

That fitting, btw - where is it located? on the RO unit itself (it's supposed to be on the waste side to restrict flow).

Ron it is a flow restrictor and should be used. Here is a bit on flow restrictors.

Brian
What is The Flow Restrictor For?
First, to create pressure throughout the membrane element.
Second and more importantly, to maintain a desired ratio of reject flow (to drain) and permeate (product) flow.
Residential membranes require a reject flow rate of at least 3-6 times the product flow rate. Normally this ratio is maintained at approximately 3:1 to 5:1. Therefore, a membrane rated at 10 gallons per 24 hour day should be sized with a flow restrictor of at least 50 gallons per day.

Under-sizing the flow restrictor in order to run the system at higher recoveries results in premature scaling of the membrane, and shorter membrane life, and/or an increase in higher-TDS product water. Additionally, scaling of the flow restrictor will alter the flow rate to drain, and decrease the ratio, causing the above problems. To avoid this, flow restrictors should be changed regularly.
The flow restrictor should be changed every time the membrane is changed.

What is The Flow Restrictor For?
Flow restrictors are rated by a flow rate expressed as milliliters/minute (ml/min) A standard flow restrictor that closely meets the calculated brine flow should be selected. The poorer the feed water quality, the higher the reject to product ratio should be. Lowering the ratio below the recommended level will result in faster fouling of the membrane and shorter membrane life. In addition to this, when designing a system, check to ensure that the desired reject to product ratio can be met at the operating pressure the system will be running at.

thefilterguys.biz only warenty there units if you contuine 2 buy the filters from them.

when its time for me, ill call them tell them what i have/bought, and tell them 2 send me everything i need

i talked to the guys at Filterdirect...this is where i got my unit.. they weren't helpful and acted like they had better things to do..i hung up and called Filterguys.biz...i will be giving all of my RO/DI business to them...the guy talked to me for about 15-20min...he was very polite and helpful..he told me what the problems could be with my unit outflow...VERY NICE GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the same reason why I stopped buying stuff from filterdirect. WRS did a group buy through filterguys and we got some super pricing. They got my unit running a lot better that it ever had and their customer service is top notch.

Cccccccccccccccccccccccccccc

good guys right? they will be geting a call from me soon for replacement filters,

let me put it this way.. i told the guy at Filterdirect that my unit wasn't putting out many gpd....i asked him if a booster pump would help or something else..he said i should buy another unit from them and double my output.THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD SIGNAL!!!!!! i called Filterguys and he asked the same questions about my unit and water pressure.. he tried to help find the problem and didn't try to sell me something that i don't need..in fact, he told me to get a pressure gauge before i bought anything.. he said that would help identify if it was a pressure problem...he was very helpful and polite!!!!!!!!!!!

That's to bad. Considering I just got a unit from them. :(

Sounds like TheFilterGuys gave you some good advice.
