RODI water question/filter

I was lent a RODI unit. Kent Marine S
Not sure what GPD it is. but it has a 5micron with a carbon block, and last filter is DI resin.
Well I got it about a week ago, have ran maybe 35 gallons max through it. Unsure why its burned up the di resin so quick so heres the scoop.
We're on a well. Community well supposuvly on Camano Island.
Tested the TAPs TDS it read 243

Ran my first 10 gallons through it the day I recieved it. Tested 11 TDS after the unit.

Couple days later. Ran 10 more gallons... but the TDS was now 37 ish.

Today I ran another 10 gallons... tested at 75 TDS.

Heres a picture of the filter now..




as you can see, and as pandora stated.. holy SH#@ a weeks worth of water. 35 gallons maybe burnt up this DI resin
So my question is... WHAT SHOULD I DOOOOO? :0

Should I buy the refillable DI resin from bulk reef?

What would my FUTURE options be as far as getting a better unit or making it so I don't burn up resin every week. LOL

Should also mention that there is no membrane in the filter. I didnt need one so the one that was in there was no good so i didnt send it to you...lol. And i forgot to mention to you there is no flow restictor in it so you may need one of those also. But like i said, ive never really needed a membrane here in port orchard.

As for gpd, that depends on water pressure, flow restrictor and membrane used. Thought id throw that in here too.

It was doing this to me too last night. That's why in my forum thing after my video theres like 3 posts lol oh well..
I just read on barrierReef. They have a heavy duty DI unit.
and they said if I were to connect that directly to a tap source that it would burn through the resin very quickly...

thats kinda the setup I have now right pandora? except it goes tap, micron, carbon, resin right?
maybe thats why... no membrain. I also have 40lbs of pressure.

Yea. It goes from the faucet, 5 micron sediment, carbon block, brs nuclear grade color changing resin. When the membrane is in, the water leaves from the sediment filter, to the carbon block, then to the membrane to the last filter which is the di. So the way its running now is as a di filter, which, with your water being so dirty, it will go through the resin pretty quick. Id suggest just replacing all the filters.

From the numbers you provided the DI was shot when you started.

With your tap water at 243, you'll get somewhere around 21 gallons from that DI cartridge.

Yes - you'll need to install a membrane and matched flow restrictor.

Would also recommend that you get a pressure gauge add on kit.

Has a pressure guage, its on the membrane housing. The di resin was brand new 2 days before i sent it to him. He also said he got 35g of water at readings of 243 on the tds. Try a membrane and restrictor. Match them like stated, 150 gpd membrane needs a 150 gpd restrictor, 60 gpd needs a 60 gpd restrictor.

Reason I said the resin was bad when he got it is because he said the first 10 gallons of DI water was 11 ppm TDS...

Can di resin, sediment filter and a carbon block bring tds down to 0 from 200+? Im still learning this ro/di filtering stuff. Ive had the unit for a couple years and only used it a few times. I get water from my lfs. The si is from brs, the 7.5# bag and its maybe 8 months old. Their website says shelf life of 2 years.

In your system, only the DI removes TDS to any significant extent. So the TDS coming out of the carbon is about the same as your tap water. If your flow was slow enough, then yes, it could bring it down to zero, but after running about 25 gallons of the 200 ppm water through it, the DI would need to be replaced.

There is a shelf life issue with DI resin - we don't recommend people buy more than they'll use in 6 months, even when packaged correctly like we do in special plastic.

The brs resin comes in a mylar bag. Sorry sedro. Dont mean to hyjack, but now im curious. If di isnt recommended to be shelfed for no more than 6 months, then how can a company say it has a shelf life of 2 years? Isnt that false advertisement? I know you said you dont recommend any longer than 6 months, i just dont know how to word it right...lol. Does my question make sense, if not i can try and word it a lil differant.

You are correct Pandora. Almost all Purolite resins are 2 yrs. The Mylar bags are vacuum packed. Cheap, non- nuclear grade are 6 months - 1 year.

Whoa I really misse the ball on this one.
So with my 240 ppm I can only run 20 gallons of good water?

How do I get around that?

Mentioned it before, and still suggest, a membrane so you can have true rodi water instead of just di water. Can you PM me your address again. Wanna send you something. Youre starting with pretty crappy water to start, which sucks, so your going to go through filters a lil gaster than say me.

Yes. Correct. And yes, you will want a restrictor to match the membranes gpd amount or visa versa. Still waiting on your address...lol

Right. Membrane and matched flow restrictor. And don't forget to remove your old restrictor,

24, 36, 50, 75, 100, 150 gpd membranes will all fit in that system. The spec's on those membranes, in terms of how much pressure they need, and in how well they clean the water, vary. Because you are delivering the RO water to DI, I would typically steer you away from the 100 gpd membrane:
