Just got this skimmer. Great design. Just interested if I should use it right off the bat or wait. The tank is 170 DT plus 40 sump. Just put water in the tank wednesday for the first time. I test it out and it just spurges bubble and fills the top. Is this because the only bio load in the tank is 60 pounds of live sand? Live rock should come this coming wednesday. Should I wait or start the break in period. Just not sure how to stop it from filling the cup.

raise the skimmer open the flow all the way and close the airline to only a crack....it took my SWC almost 3 weeks to break in and it was all over the place until it did.

Yep, it'll take it awhile to break in. Go ahead and get it running and await the break in period.

Do you mean raise the skimmer more than it recommended? It recommended to be in 9-10 in of water.

yeah if you can't get it to stop overflowing via normal means then raise it on a stand until it breaks in a little.

Maybe it has residues in/on it from manufacturing? Along with the other suggestions, you could try a good soak in a warm water and vinegar while it's running to to remove any residue.
