Sand sifter compatibility question

So I have fallen in love with the blue spotted jaw fish. this little guy has so much personality. I want to know how safe they are in a semi-aggressive reef? i'm planning a fairly large tank, with a lot of rock, and probably 3 inches of sand bed. when I say semi-aggressive, I have my heart set on a pair of gold dwarf morays. despite being deals, I have read that they are fairly docile. Is my BSJF going to be $100 snack?

I don't have much experience with morays, but I would be afraid that anything they could get in their mouth, they would.
