i bought a Red Sea Berlin Air-Lift 60 protein skimmer and i also bought the Profile 1500 air pump. It doesnt seem to be working because i dont think the pump is strong enough, that or i am doing something wrong. Whats a good pump for this skimmer and also can the one i have be used for this skimmer if i try.

I'm not sure. Here is a link to the skimmer on Red Sea's site. If you don't get the answer's you are seeking, perhaps you can contact their technical support.

Red Sea Berlin Air lift

I do have a question: How long has the skimmer been set-up, and what kind of trouble are you noticing?

thanks alot. the skimmer has just been set up and i was wondering if that was causing a problem that would stop after a while. when i put the water at the marker on the skimmer the bubbles dont reach the cup but when i push the skimmer down bubbles reach the collection cup and murky water seeps into the cup. i dont know if this matters or if it will be ok.

You made the mark according to the manufacturer's direction and have the skimmer at the correct height?

Some skimmers also have a definite break-in period where they just won't perform well without a thin slick on the sides of the chamber. I've never used the Red Sea though.

ya its at the right height and everything i just think i need a better pump. ill switch and tell what happens

ok i switched and it works better everything is solved.
but i have another question about one of my tank inhabitants. My emerald crab has small white barnacles on it. at first it only had a few now it has tons of them all over. I wanted to know if that can hurt my crab or if i should be worried in any way. will the crab molt eventually if they are painful or annoying, or can it only do that when it is growing?

Glad the skimmer prob is fixed :)

I wouldn't worry about the crab; I've caught some pretty big dungeouness with barnacles all over them. Next time the crab molts it won't be a problem anymore.

Dear nubes,
you seem to be an enthusiastic reefkeeper. im glad that your skimmer is finally set up, as those can be a pain in the rump!
now, your crab should be fine, as barnacles are a natural occurance with crabs. I myself have a freshwater fiddler crab, and golly, is he a joy!
I wish you luck with your tank, and hope that you will keep submitting to the forums, because I will be glad to answer your questions.

Your buddy,

Paco ala Taco

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH. you actually got the fiddler thats awsome well paco i do concur they are quit the little ronchouse miscriants on occasion but that is rivaled by their sweet disposition. todaloooo
