I need to setup a hospital tank to treat my sick blue tang. I am planning on using hyposalinity to hopefully kill the ick. The only thing that I don't have and have no cash for is a refractometer currently. I am hoping that I can use one or possibly trade one from someone who has one in the club

If someone is willing to lend me theirs that is an option. Or if someone wouldn't mind coming over to check my salinity level for the tank. I have a ton of chems that I could trade for one? I do have some live rock that I could trade as well.

Please let me know if you are willing to help out in my efforts to save my tang

Thanks in advance,
Josh

Josh,

Be sure the salinity gets tested a couple of times a day every day. The salinity needs to remain below 16 ppt at all times. I would suggest lowering it to 14 ppt and marking the tank at that level for top offs. It's a decent safety margin but you'll still need to test it to ensure it remains there. Any innacuracey will result in a failed treatment. You will also need to mix up a good amount of "change water" for water quality control.

Don't forget to buffer the RO water used to lower the salinity and test pH/alk several times daily in the QT.

Good luck!!
Cheers
Steve
