A buddy of mine has an empty 100gallon tank and stand with built-in 100gallon sump that he has offered to give to me. Problem is, it's located in Maryland and I'm in Seattle. I've been looking into shipping costs, but the Fedex estimate is something like $1000. There has to be something cheaper! Has anyone shipped a tank across the country before? What company did you use? If I can find a company that's willing to both pack it and ship it, that would be best so I can put the least amount of work on my friend. Thanks!

only way I can see of cutting that in half, possibly, would be rent a u-haul and drive it out. So really, that price my not be so bad.

I have done similar, look at trucking companys where you can pick it up yourself at their freight center. I went with a company called SALA, their warehouse is in renton.

when i moved from NC to WA, the moving company crated all my tanks which will add to the weight and cost.

Yes they need to be crated and shipped with a trucking company. We shipped a smaller tank from WA to NY a few years ago and the discounted rate our supplier negotiated was $850. Crazy! We also get custom tanks out of Texas and the shipping is usually $400-$600 before the fee for crating which is an extra $150.

Holy cow. Well, thanks everyone for your suggestions. I knew this wouldn't be cheap, but I wasn't thinking quite that high. Gonna have to do some thinking to see if it's an idea I still want to pursue. Maybe I can convince my friend to move back to the West coast and bring that tank with him :)

if the estimate is $1000, u should be able to find a used tank near here for that amt of money..
