light set up's, what you have, what kinda wattage your useing, the dimentions of your tank.

tell me about the heat, the sound, if you like it, is it sterdy, give me the CONSUMERS REPORT on lighting.

I think im sure im gonna do a 150 next. Im working on geting a 55 for the sump. (from a friend) the lights i have now should be good enough for the 55 sump.

what what kinda size do i want to look at, i was at thepetplace.com 2day, and me and the sweety were looking at tanks. (way way 2 much) (not buying new) but they had some nice 150's

i think im gonna have a 150, black trim, black cabenet. I like the no top look (just lights) (like the t5 setups)

i also saw a 90, that was like a cube.... i liked it, but it was acrilic, I deffently want a GLass, Im not sure if im gonna go AGA, or RR

just want your inputs guys.

Here's my setup I had on my 75gal... Dual 250w PFO retro kit with 20K XM bulbs. I had to add 5 fans in the canopy, 1 over the sump to get the temp down and opted for a chiller as well to make sure thing would be stable. As for noise, if you are referring to the ballast, not very loud at all...

The Ballast

And here's what I have on my cube. Single 250w PFO Retro kit wiith 12K Reeflux bulb

110 gallon tank 6' long
I have 2 250W Hamilton 14K lamps driven by IceCap electronic ballasts
ReefOptix3 pendants
3 110W VHO actinics with an IceCap 660
The report:
A lot of heat is created. I am running 2- 10" fans and a chiller. One fan on the lamps and the other on the ballasts.
There is NO noise but the fans.
The light in the tank is still verry white. I will be changing to a different brand of 14K lamps or maybe even 20K.
total Cost retail was around $1200 so that was my only gripe about the whole setup besides the heat.
Sturdy for being DIY
Oh and it has raised my power bill by about $40 a month ( so the wife figures)

I'd DEFINITELY make sure the tank is Reef Ready! On the 150, are you thinking 60x24x24? I'd suggest 3 x 250w MH plus supplementation. Here's my 38g (36 x 12 x 20) with 2 x 150w MH and no supplementation. My tank stand is a converted TV corner cabinet.

i want a long tank, but MH's put outta mega heat, can i get away with a 60 something or 70 something inch bulb's VHO's or t5's

does it have 2 be HID's?

Jon...Luke (liveforphysics) and Bob (Reefdaddy) are really into the T-5 bulbs. I would see if you can maybe get one of them to chime in on the subject. It may be a bit difficult for Bob to chime in because he's going out of town, but Luke is really sharp on the subject. I don't know anything much about the T-5's (atleast I've never owned or seen any in person) but people keep any type of coral underneath them so they can work for whatever setup you want, just keep in mind you'd need more bulbs to equal up to one MH bulb as well as you will have to chnge them more frequently than the MH bulbs, but they do produce less heat from what I understand:)

here's my light fixture, they are giesemanns 2x150w hqi and 2x54 t5s, hot like all halides, electric ballast is completely silent and very compact
