I got a Royal Gamma last week and it is extremely shy, the only time I can see it is if I am in another room and do not approach.

So far I don't think it has eat anything, of course it would not come out when I attempt to feed it, and I am not sure if it got anything that I dropped in the tank.

I am wondering how long can the fish live like this if it still refuse to come out of hiding (so far it has been a week)? On the side note, would it ever come out and be seen? Or is it the personality of the fish and I am stuck with a fish that cannot be seen?

Thanks.

Some fish take awhile to associate you with food. Try standing still or sitting next to the tank and see if it will aclimate to you. Maybe some frozen food in a glass and just put in a tiny bit, every once in a while it can see you. Try lowering the room lights so he can see better than you. Might help I dont know just ideas.. Grammas can be kind of shy and like their bolt-holes in the rock. Once he gets used to the new digs though, he should be out and about most of the time. You might try enticing him out with some live brine, just to get him used to eating in the tank, then progess to some other meaty food. It shouldn't be long before he eats everything offered.
