ok, so i get my skimmer today....there are no instructions and a bag with fittings ... does anyone know how to assemble it?...it is an octopus NW 200....this is my first in-sump skimmer...this thing is HUGE... i will take a picture of the parts and post them

here are pics of the parts...from the look of one of the fittings, it looks like i need to but some plastic tubing

yes, that pic did help....i think some of these parts are extra in case you run it externally...not sure though..

i do have a question.....do i need to build a stand for it to sit on????? i have no idea how deep the water is supposed to be or anything.. i have never heard of something that didn't come w/ instructions

instruction! Ahhhhh you dont need them.

how about buying a cement mixer (350.00) With no instructions,

Us, men we dont instructions, we just need pictrures.

LOL J/k

Good luck

i prefer instructions w/ pics!!!:).....it says you can just plug it in and use it on the website.... i don't know...i don't see why it would need a stand....also, what is the airline hose for?...i hooked it up..it has a hard time staying in place though.

what's the water height in you sump currently? If it about 6-8 inch's inthe skimmer chamber you should be fine. If it's more than that you might need a stand. Don't forget the skimmer will displace water in the sump. In other words if you sump holds 20g without the skimmer it might only hold 19g now that there's a skimmer, another pump etc. So make sure you test yout drain down with the pumps off after placing the skimmer in the sump.

If you need a stand I've seen people use a Tuperware Container, make one out of the Egg Crate and zip ties, or acrylic. You might even be able to make something out of PVC piping. Just be creative.

Air line is so the venturi can pull in air. This is so the needle wheel pump can mix the water and air to make fine little bubbles.

Edit: There might small tab with a hole in on the side body of the skimmer to hold in place.

The only reason you would ever need a stand is if the water level in your sump is higher than the ouput of the skimmer. If your water level is higher than that you will get wetter skimmate, which may not be a bad thing.

And your water level only needs to be deep enough for the intake of your pump to remain submerged.

So there is a range of depths you can keep your the water in your sump.

With my skimmer that gives me a range of about 6 inches to create dry skimmate (output in the lowest position) and about 10-11 inches when extended to create wet skimmate. If I could adjust the depth of the water, which I can't.

Can you even adjust the height of the water in your sump? The skimmer section of my refugium/sump has a set height of the outflow, meaning my depth is constant.

i haven't built the sump yet... i wanted to get the skimmer so that i could see how it fits and place it where it need to be.... i can make the baffle as tall as i want it...i don't know what a good constant water level in the sump area should be

good thing then you will be able to glue your glass with the sump right there, (no tape messure)

whats better wet or dry (dark, dark, brown, black) skinmate?

wouldnt the wet (fills up faster, lighter) remove more water? (and salt)?

i am going to try the removable baffle system... i am going to wrap the weather seal tape around it to make the seal
