Skimmer

I need to get a real skimmer before upgrading my tank. I dont think the little backpack is going to cut it. I found a Oceanic #4 on ebay. Is this a good skimmer???? Will it work for a 60 or 70??

I wouldn't go to cheap on your skimmer because it could cost you in the long run. The Oceanic is a good skimmer from what I have been told but I have never had one. I'll ask around for ya and see what I come up with on how they are.

I dont want a cheap skimmer I just wanted a used one. The less I spend on hardware the more I can spend on LR. There is also a ETSS on ebay and one in the for sale forum. What do you think of those??

ETSS skimmers are nice. Usually ranked up there with the big boys.

I know you are asking about skimmers. Have you considered going skimerless. More and more reefers are. I have a number of tanks without skimmers and they are doing just as good as the tanks with them. The new 180 that should arrive the end of this week will be set up without one.

Just another option to consider.

I ran an Oceanic #4 on my 75G for about 4 months. When running right it did a good job, however it could be a little touchy to keep running at peak performance. Water level changes could realy throw it off. JMO

I use Emperor 400 HOB filters without the bio-wheels. I do small weekly or every other week water changes. I use DSB and LR.

The new 180 will have DSB and LR from the 125. 2 Emperor 400 filters. An Iwaki MD55RLT water pump running the Chiller and a Dolphin Aqua-sea 2100 on a closed loop.

I start by doing 20 gallon water changes every other week and adjust according to what the tank tells me.

I do about 3-4 gallons weekly changes. Everything is great, I dont want to skim a whole bunch of good stuff out, but I would assume im changing more water than those with. This is on a 75 gallon tank.

remora pro is a great hang on and the urchin pro is the in sump one version. Both are plug and run,no adjusting and well work great for a 50 or 60 gal tank. if you plan on having a nbr of fish in your tank i would surely skim.

I don't have to change any more water on my tanks without a skimmer than the ones with one.
