snowflake perculas with hadonni?

I bought a pair of snowflake percuals about a week ago and was planning on getting a blue haddoni for them. I was reading a few of the FAQ's on wet web media and one of the post said his carpet ate his clowns. Has anyone ever heard of this? these clowns cost me $480.00 and if there is any chance of them bieng eaten I would rather just go with a rose bubble tip. Thanks for any help.

Wow! I don't believe I know what snowflake perculas are. What is the Genus and species? How big are they - wild caught I assume? I'm sure spending that amount for clownfish, you have done your research and know what anemones they associate with. I have never heard of a carpet anemone eating clowns before, but there is always a first time. Do you remember what the response was? I'd love to see a pic of these guys!

Hi Nikki. "Snowflake" clowns are known for their odd white coloration. In most cases, there is a white coloration from the start of the first head stripe, all the way through the second. It is all filled with white. The "snowflake" clowns are actually a very rare 'mutation' type of True Percula//Ocellaris hybrid. So if you were to pair and have a True Perc and Ocellaris mate, and spawn, there are still very very very low chances that their offspring will look like the snowflake clowns. Today's prices for 2 fetch about $350-400 easily.

All of them that I know are coming from Tropical Marine Centre in the U.K., which is that country's version of "ORA" here in the U.S. Now...as to who carries them here...Quality Marine (wholesaler) in LA has them time to time...but well..I suppose with all things...if you have connections you can get them eventually There are a couple others.

Again, I don't think they look all that special. In fact, I think they look like really ugly ocellaris...which...I think ocellaris aren't special anyway. I'd take a pair of Amphiprion fuscocaudatus over a pair of snowflake clowns. Heck, even a pair of A. latezonatus would be nice

Pfan151 welcome to Reef Frontiers! And kudos on the great find!!! Someone in the reef club here in Houston had a Hadoni carpet that ate MANY of his fish. He was very aggravated with it.... I don't know if it would eat the clowns hosting in it, but I'm not sure that I'd take the chance with your pair.
I remember reading a thread on RC VERY recently about these guys... There are pics in the attached threads of the snowflakes. I think they look awesome and it would be neat to get ahold of one of them since I like the idea of having fish that are different from your "average" reef fish!!! Good luck with them! Post pics of them if you can!

Thanks for the links, Becky. I have for sure read about carpets eating other fish, but not clowns. I find it interesting....maybe a lot of factors were involved there.

Elmo - thank you for the information. I guess I should have figured it out since they were called snowflake "perculas". But you never know with common names these days....the black occelaris often called Black Percs, etc etc. These do remind me of a white version of my Black Onyx Percs.

I've heard of Haddoni Carpets eating lots of fish in the tank, and I've heard of clowns actually sleeping inside a Haddoni Carpet's mouth at night...but I've never heard of a carpet eating a clown before. Maybe if the clown were really sick, (mostly dead), or really young, (like weeks old) maybe...but I'd seriously doubt yours would be in any danger. If your really that concerned about it, I'd suggest getting Bubble Tip Anemone, or a Long Tentacle Anemone instead.
