Unfortunately this little guy jumped out of the tank to his death:( I was very sadened becuase he was one of the original's that started in the tank. Because of this, I have glossed him over and mounted him as one of the original's to pay tribute.

I guess on the bright side, he has entered fish heaven where there are no "red bugs"

I dont get it. Fish could care less about red bugs. What up with this whole "south end of seattle" hang up on red bugs anyway. Come on up north and Ill give you some of my prize corals out of my display with AEFW's. Iv'e gone through 15 tubes of super glue and over 500Ml of iodine in the last six months fighting the little buggers. Three little tank treatments isnt squat compared to what some have gone through............

Sorry about the rant. Im sick red bug talk. Sorry about your little fish. Nice mount BTW. :) Im going to go dip 75 frags in the grow out system now just to be safe. See you in two hours.

Bummer on the fish! I had an arowana I loved when I had a freshwater setup and grew him up from when he still had his yolk sack to where he was almost 12 inches long and when I met him on the floor one day, it really upset me. :doubt: Gotta keep those tanks covered as it does happen.

I think the reason why we are so caught up on it is that we are trying to make a bad situation better with humor. If I didn't use humor in these situations I would have probably thrown the fishtank out the door by now:)

This has been such a touchy/sensitive subject for a while now. With all that has happened recently, I personally think that the best thing to do here is rather than try and throw in a bit of humor that may/will offend someone and spiral threads out of control and off topic (where this one has gone already), it's probably better not to touch the topic at all and just let it die. Just a thought...:)

Sorry to have started this. I tend to wonder if speeymichael has a clue as he's not as regular of a poster like some of us. Let me quickly explain. there have been a few hot red bug threads in the last month or so that have gone sour. I havent been directly involved, but after so much reading, jokes about red bugs are like rubbing salt in a wound, even to me. Even if unintentional. Yes, we can all get along. If we remember that written english is easily misinterpreted. Thats what the Smileys are for. :D

Back on topic

FWIW I have a built in tank and had several fish jump when I first set my tank up. I have since used gutter guard to build a "fish fence" so to speak and it has done its job well. My long nose hawk had freeked out on several occasions and ended up in my overflows rather than on the floor or in the laundry sink.

Should I not say anything or should I. If I have to think about it I think its best I don't.
All I can say with out getting her shut down is the south of seattle. "Show Some Love"

trido: Are you winning the battle. I been doing some reading and MAN thats something I hope I never get or Nudi's. Best of luck on that one

I've had em all in my relatively short time in the hobby.
I am feeling that the AEFW's and I are at a stalemate right now.

thanks Trido for the suggestions on the gutter guard. Great idea, I need to get something set-up. I never imagined that I would ever have a fish jump out. I had a 72 gal set-up with no lip around it and open with no problems.

ps. I now know not to mention the two bad words in humor. Sorry;)

Speedy, Is that pic in your avatar taken on the snowmobile plateaus of mount baker?
That sure looks familiar.

i did not know that clowns are jumper? Is this really a common behavior of clowns? I asked because i have a clown of 6 years now.

All different fish a prone to jumping. I have never had a fish jump in the 3.5 years I have had a tank. And I've had a LOT of wrasses, which are notorious for jumping. I think the less fighting and less bullying you have going on in the tank, the less a fish will jump.

Trido, sorry for loss man. I have had this happen 2 times now with my rimless two Percula's first was male, then I paired the female with an Ocelaris, which actually worked they bonded, then she went airborne, all within a 3 month period now.

Honestly, non of that compares to oosing my bonded percula pair of 4 years( first fish I ever had) they died in an ex gf plot to sabotage my tank.

Mental reminder, keep an ex's away from reefs.

cheers
David

Thanks, but it isn't my loss. I havent lost a fish in near two years since I built my fish fence. Heck this isnt even my thread. :)

Actually Trido this is a picture of Arctic Man in Alaska. It is crazy!! They have a sea of snowmachines for as far as the eye can see. Craziest party you will ever see.
