Is this normal. My water level fluctuates about 1/2 inch. Sometimes it's up...sometimes it's down. I never had this issue on my other tanks and just wondered if I did something wrong on this one or if it's ok.

Sounds like it's flushing. The vent hole in the top may be too small. Just ever so slightly. Maybe???

i second that. Does it ever make a noise like a toilet flushing? Either clean out the hole in the top if it has been a while, or enlarge it slightly.

I would have to say the same. The airintake hole is a little to small for the water volume. Try increasing it one size at a time. Or, drill it big and add a small hose with a valve on it. The hose only has to be a few inches long.

Ok here's what I did...
I bought several caps for my standpipe and drilled them all with different diameter holes up to 1/4 inch. Still had the same issue. In fact the bigger the hole the higher the water level. So I went back to the original cap that I was using. Apparently the problem was the amount of flow. I dialed the return flow down just a little bit and it is now staying constant and level with no fluctuations. Guess maybe there is such a thing as too much flow.
