Im thinking about putting staboard on the bottom of my new glass tank. Anyone have a part of a sheet they want to sell or does anyone want to split a sheet??

I can't believe how expensive it is!

I used pvc board in mine the week. A lot cheaper and not as reflective as starboard. It floats though so you would have to silicone it down. Steve (wrightme43) uses the same stuff as well. I paid $40 for a piece here in the Bahamas to cover my floor in my 75. Starboard the same size here is well over $120. Just to give you an idea of cost. HTH

Hey everyone,

Well I received my starboard that I ordered but it's BLACK! oops

Funny, I asked Scott from the beginning about black in the bottom to match the tank back and he said he's always seen white.

I'd like to use the black but wonder exactly what to expect with the lighting. He says the white will reflect (yes I know) and the black will absorb. I only keep softies, zoos and LPS. I keep no SPS and have no plans to. So if the black does absorb I was wondering if there is a chance it add to heat issues just like when I wear black jeans in the summer I get hotter.. lol

I'm looking for specifc information as to thoughts about how much light it will absorb; ie; so much there won't be enough for my corals and is there a chance it will increase the heat in my tank.

Scott pointed out in theory we wait for the bottom to cover in coralline so eventually that will happen and you won't see it anyway.

Thanks

it's not a big deal, the stuff my bro has was black, no problem with it or extra heat. and yes, it does just cover over with coralline anyway.

sorry i didnt get back to you sooner about it:(
i've been so damn busy lately:cry:

I wonder if before you put it in the tank and cover it with rock, corals, water and all other things heavy, You could put a similar black bottom in say a small 10 g with a little rock and water and get a mini preview of the effect? JAIIHTMBS (just an idea I had that may be stupid ) ;)

Scott suggested that too but I'm sure I'll like it. I wasn't crazy about the bright white look. If I dont I"ll be cryin in no time.. :)

Let us know how it looks with some pics or something. I dont have a bottom idea yet for my new 180 and if it looks really cool I may have to copy you Colleen.... :)

Hey Colleen,
I think the black starboard will look great! I have a friend with a tank with black sand and it makes the tank inhabitants almost glow, I bet this will do the same. I would definately get Scott busy on it :D (spoken as a longtime, pure blooded honey-doer ;) )! I want to see some pictures when it's done too.

Susie
