starfish eating coral?!

i bought a choclate chip starfish and he started crawling all over a fragment of polyp coral....does this mean he was eating it? cuz he puase right on top of it
 
I'm not for sure if they eat coral, or what types. But I can tell you for sure, that chocolate chips, aren't reef safe.

i have two clams too...but he didnt touch those though....i have the starfish in a lil tank will it survive over night with no filtration so i could talke it back to the fish store
 
they are very durable. yes they WIL eat your corals, that is their preferred diet. mine likes xenia best but others as well, and clams-its only a matter of time before you find them eating something you like. if you are VERY diligent about feeding them some other food like shrimp or clams from the supermarket they will usually stay off the corals but 6-12 hours can mean the difference between them not taking the food you offer and finding a piece of coral eaten.
