Couple quick questions:

What Stony Coral cutters does everyone use/recommend? I'd like to get some that are also able to cut frag plugs... :)

Also,
What's the best way to get lockline apart without destroying it? I have a splitter on my return and a lot of lockline, and I want to go to no lockline and a single return flare. I'm stumped at how to do this though.

Thanks!

Elly

The loc line is easy, grab hold and snap it apart like you are trying to break it in half. An elcheapo tile saw is perfect for hard corals. If your just snipping frags most wire cutters are fine.

Hey Elly, you can also heat up some water in the Microwave and submerge the loc-line for a minute or so to soften it up then pull apart. Walgreens has heavy-duty toenail snips/cutters in stainlees steel for around $12 that will snip off most SPS and some of the agracrete plugs. Have not tried them on ceramic plugs yet.

Cheers, Todd

Thanks for the advice, guys!

I got one piece of the lockline off, and I think it might work fine that way. I'll go look for those clippers at Walgreens. :)

I kinda want to be able to just clip and then get it back in the water. I feel like it would take a long time with a dremel and there would be a lot of dust/particulates. No?

get the diamond wheel, the water on the coral won't allow any dust to form but muck will fly, dremels are very useful for fragging as you can cut off what you want without the risk of fracturing the coral with snips

I just want something that will cut through a frag plug with zoas on it, so I'm not worried about fracturing a coral. :) I'll see if my husband has a diamond wheel for his dremel.
