What is the best material to use as a cushion between the tank and stand. I was thinking of styrofoam. If so what thickness is best. This will be for a 40 gal tank.

I hear most people using the styrofoam insulation board like they sell at Home Depot and Lowes. I think its a 1/2" thick or so, HTH

To foam or not to foam, that is the question!

I have been using 1/2" closed cell foam on the small to medium sized tanks. The kind of foam that hikers use to sleep on, as it will not absorb water. It also works great for under the base of pumps to calm the vibration. Just my experience.
