Sump/OverFLOW

I just tried to get my sump going and it looks like the pump I have in there is pumping too much or the overflow is not pulling enough.

The pump is a 700gph pump but with 4 feet i would think it is below 600pgh.
The overflow is rated at 600pgh but it doesnt seem to be doing that much.

yeah its full because when I started it last time I almost ran it over the main tank, it wasnt draining fast enough so I let a little more drain down.

So I just started it again and it ran for and hour or so it looked fine but I checked the level of the main tank and it was rising. So I still have the problem of too much pumped and not enough drain. That was with the T-valve open all the way. hmmmmm

What is carrying the water from the tank to the sump, is it the same diameter of tubing?

Comming off the overflow is what looks like 1" I have 3/4" tubing running from my pump to my main tank.

Do you have a valve in your return line?
I had the same problem and had to slow my return down alittle.
Overflow could not keep up with my pump. Put a ball valve in and got er dialed in and no probs since. I turn the valve every week or so.
That way it doesnt stick.

I have a "T" and a valve to return the extra to the sump. But I've been talking to others and I think I may have figured it out. My drain pipe was under the waterline in the sump

you need to use 1 1/2'' drain hose, then you would be able to flow up to 1500 gallons per hr..
get some pictures of the overflow box, in detail ofcourse..

you need to add another U tube in the over flow then upgrade the drain hose to 1 1/2'' then you can run over 1000 gph...

If you have the "U" siphon tube in backwards you will definately not be able to keep up with the pump. The long end needs to be on the backside of the pre-filter and the shorter end to the tank side of the pre-filter. The reason why I said that is because your "U" siphon tube is filled with air meaning it is either backwards or not primed properly. I ran basically the same pre-filter with a mag7 and it kept up. Tony had the same issue with his prefilter not being able to keep up with the pump as you are having till he flipped his "U" siphon tube and now it's working fine...

Yeah...Well just make sure you get all the air out of the "U" tube when priming, then atleast you'll know you are getting full flow out of the prefilter. That little air pocket like you have in the picture was the same air pocket that prevented Tony (71Lockard) from dryng out his sump. Once he got full siphon in his "U" tube, he was good to go.

air tubing- but basically a straw
