sump/refugium making workshop?

Mark and I were discussing DIY sumps out of acrylic. (I've been unable to locate a sump for my space. I suspect he'll have a tough time finding one for his 10" wide space also.) See: http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=344424&posted=1#post344424

I was wondering if PSAS has some folks willing to help us put it together? I was thinking a DIY workshop for planning and making acrylic sumps? We can get the pieces professionally cut at the acrylic store to size and bring all the pieces and some weldon. I think I just need some moral support to actually glue it together.

Are there some DIY acrylic experts out there willing to help us?

This subject has been discussed before. Maybe if we can get a acrylic builder like CFG or IAP that has time? Maybe someone that has a lot of time and wants to share a garage and talk. We can certainly discuss this again as a group. Again, We need a volunteer for place and someone that is has experience building sumps. It is noted and hopefully will happen. This is your club. You ideas are important.

Remowilliams aka Bobby is making a sump/refugium fo me. His company Nautilus Aquariums makes custom acrylic tanks and he is using the rems for that work to build my sump. I am very excited and he is very reasonably priced.

I'm kinda leaning towards picking up a "backpack" fuge when I upgrade my tank

Actually, since my original post in january, I did a bunch of research and designed, and made my own sump already! It was a blast and so much easier than I anticipated.

I measured everything I wanted in my sump, drew up everything on paper. Then, one day I decided to take an extra moment and draft it up in CAD (totally not necessary, but since I can draft, it was a piece of cake) Then I took the drawing and the individual pieces that I created in CAD and got my plexiglass, weldon.

Bonding the pieces was fun too! It was also somewhat challenging to get a clean bond. I probably could have used more practice

Sigh, who'd a thunk it?

Surprisingly enough, it was so much fun that I was a little disappointed after I was done and got it all running:|

I'm certainly faaaar from being an expert (definately not after only 1 sump) but let me know if anyone has any questions!
