Sump/Refugium

I have a Elos Midi tank with glass sump, I had extra LR that I threw in the sump, I want to make a refugium in the sump to keep the algae from growing all over the LR in the main display. If I put a light under the tank and shine on the LR rubble in sump will this help keep algae out of main display. Will it cause any problems in the sump?

The light down under will help grow algae down there, but just because it grows in your fuge , doesnt mean it wont grow in the DT.
There are many, many reasons why you have algae in your DT. The main reason "water quality"

I use RO water from a brand new device just recently purchased. What else could lead to algae growth? I have an Elos aqua top with 2- E-Stripes (each E-stripe contains 9 CREE LEDs (white). Would these contribute that much light to promote algae growth? They are on anywhere from 7 to 10 hours a day.

We will need to know what your water param. are.

Run a battery of tests and post up the results. This will help us determine what issues you may be going thru.

Timers from walmart will help with ur lights. Mine come on right before i get home from work and off about 8hrs l8r.

I agree that the light below will grow algae and than it could spread to ut DT.
+1 about posting parameters...also wat other equipment do u have running? How many gallons u gots? How much Lr?

Hi, Thanks for the input. It's a 36 gallon tank with about 50 pounds LR, skimmer running. Test results: no ammonia at all, no nitrates and no nitrites. PH is 8.0 and phosphates are below 0.5

At moment just one clown, one sleeper goby and a fire shrimp. Some snails and hermits.

Are there any other tests that should be run?

Sounds good to me. Water changes and turkey baster ur rock. Also a good cuc keeps a tank "clean".
