What is the difference in sands. There is the regular nature's ocean live sand that you buy at the LFS and then there is the sugar sized sand.

I notice that everybody seems to put sugar sized sand in there sump. Only thing I can think of is that it packs tighter.

Thanks

The concept with sand systems is that the smaller the particle size the more surface area is available for bacteria to populate. I am not sure what natures ocean brand is, but oothilic sand is what most folks use for dsb applications. Either will work though.

What are your plans for your sump? And how well will your return pump be protected from the sand? Pumps and sand don't mix well together. I went from sand to rubble to bare-bottom with junker LR in the sump...the BB and LR are by far the easiest to maintain...and the easiest on the pump!
