I have a 15 gallon sump filter that contains bioballs, and I have been reading in some of the forums about using a refugium without bioballs. How do you go about such a process, and is it really what I should do or should I just clean the bioballs. I have a fair amount of yuck on them and in the sump. I think this may adding to the green hair algea that I have going on. Any thoughts/help is appreciated. BTW I have a 90 gal tank, with VHO lighting, and a TurboFlotor skimmer. Thanks

Well honestly if they have been there for a long time they are pry leaching trates. When i say a long time i mean 1.5Yrs +. Most of the time they are ok. But in the longevity of things you are better off pulling them all out and adding a fuge. I'd just run a flood light 24/7 with some chaeto in it. Now, when you pull out the bioballs i'd pull them 1/3 at a time for a couple weeks. Then i'd throw in the chaeto and light. You'll be better off imo.
