I have a question about tank support and weight distribution I am hoping some of you DIY gurus will be able to answer.
I have a 55gal on a stand and the stand is exactly the dims of the bottom of the tank 48x12. I am looking at buying a 75 gal, the bottom of which is 48x18.
Can I put a ¾ inch piece of plywood on my stand overhanging 3 inches in back and front and place the 75 on it? Will it offer enough support or will the plywood bow down in that 3 inch overhand area?

Thanks
Ichthys

Definitely not. If it's a glass tank, the only thing supporting it is the edges. All edges need to be completely supported, from the tank to the floor, especially the 4 corners. The 3" overlap, will cause a lot of pressure, even on 3/4" plywood, causing the plywood to sag. This sag will result in uneven support. Any uneven support causes major stress on the silicon, which is holding the glass together. Eventually, that extra stress will overcome the silicon, resulting in a leaky tank, at best....at worse, instant failure.

ok, I wont even consider it. Do me a favor and delete my thread so i dont feel like such a noob for even asking, lol
