Hi have just noticed i have a build up of scum on the water surface and have no idea how i've caused it. My tank has been running 2 and a half weeks with no problems so far. Have all the usual skimmer pumps ect. Can anyone shed some light on this please thanks

Cakester,

Do you have an external Sump? Does that draw its water via some type of overflow (hang-on-back box, or towers)??? What type of skimmer? Where do you have it located? What type of pumps do you have? How large is your tank? Do you have Live Rock, and if so, how much?

The more you can tell us about your system, the more we may be able to help with your situation.

Agree w/L E. I would also address surface scum issues by having a surface skimming device. Breaking the water tension (causing a waterfall) should clear up the problem in no time, but we need more info and a pic or two of the tank would help.

How is this problem coming cakester?
Just another thought, what kind of surface agitation is there? Do you have a powerhead or something flowing near the surface that would keep it moving around? This would also help with gas exchange.
Just thought I'd ask.:)
