I just ordered my 1st big skimmer yesterday...its not the cone model however! Does it matter? I ordered the 150....should i have gotten the 160? Its for my 75gal/50b sump! Any input on either skimmer is great and appreciated too!

I am using a 160 cone for my 75 DT, 50 sump and 20 fuge. You should be ok though I think. The cone just makes it a bit easier to push the skimmate up. Maybe someone more knowledgeble will chime in

I also have the 160 cone, its on my 90 with a 30 gallon sump. Seems to work really well. Skimmy had mentioned that either one would be good for my application. I think the cone is just a newer design and allegedly can handle a little bit higher bio load. The only reason i got the cone was because i was able to get a deal on it at the time and I'm pretty budget conscious =) The 150 is probably fine though, that's the one i was originally going to get.

havent sold skimmers for about almost a year now... :)

but... the swc 150 is great for a 75g, excellent skimmer, 700lph air at 25 watts, excellent design features.
in tests between the 150 and 160 cone, the cone pulled about 20-25% more skimmate, but the 150 is still a beast of a skimmer for up to about 120g.

i'm thinking about getting a 160. How often do you have to clean the impeller on that guy.

i run the 160 on my 75g sps dom. (5 fish)- 40b frag(2 fish)-55g lps (3 fish).....all plumbed to my 55sump with the awesome 160 plugging away

I've cleaned mine once in the time I've had it (I actually dont know how long, under a year). I do all my pumps about every six months though. When I had it apart and cleaned it it didn't seem to be fouled up at all.

I heard that a dirty impeller wheel was one of the hits against the unit. I currently clean my ASM every 6 months. So by your guys input I should be fine.

I'm running a 75gal with a 40gal sump and figure a heavy load. I'm guessing the 160 is a better option over the 150 from what I've read. How long did it take you guys to break it in. Has anyone had to replace their pump yet.

Mine was broke in after 3 days... The pump is from italy and puts out a nice white thick foam in the body! I dont think the cone makes that much of a diff... choice is urs though.

Ok so I went for it and got the SWC 160 cone without seeing it in action, which is a big leap at $275.

Could not be happier!!!!!

This thing has sucked so much more in a dry skim then my ASM in wet mode. It took one day to settle in and then went ape nuts crazy!!!

Anyone with a tank 100gal or less cant go wrong.... unless someone gives you a Tunze.

Great call Skimmy!!!
