Hello

I was wondering if i would be able to use my sister old swimming pool pump for my closed loop. It is one of those swimming pool you could buy at wal-mart for $200. We dont have the linear anymore so i was going to try it out. Would i have a problem with it since chlorin has been used in it. THanks for your input.

I have absolutely no idea David, but the though had crossed my mind before about using a pool pump (LOL). I've even thought about using a bilge pump, but figured it would probably burn up after a few hours of continuous use (LOL). I think the chlorine would be a problem and you'd probably have to flush it out real good with freshwater for a while to get it all out. The only thing else I see would be of concern is will it hold up in saltwater. It may not be designed to handle salt and could possibly be made or assembled with lower grade metal screws (not necessarily stainless steel) that may start to rust once exposed to salt. I've seen it happen before on some older pool pumps being submersed in even freshwater. You may have to contact the manufacturer on that one. Good luck!

Well I am completely 100% anti walmart so this just may be that coming out in me. LOL
I would not trust anything that is not made for saltwater use as a vital and neccesary piece of equiptment on my reef tank. We are talking lots of money risked on a reletively low cost item. Just my opinion though and thats all.
