We can call this design the Steven 75g mixed reef memorial shirt:(

So this shows what I was thinking. What do you think? Each letter would be from a different members tank.

I knew that those corals looked familiar. then i read the post and understood why. That is really cool. I would say BIG and on the back with a simple PSAS on the front.

Yes I agree big. I was thinking on the front, but only because my hair covers the back of my shirts:), but either way is do-able.

"I" do like the look of this and think it's a good idea, BUT.....

Here's a few things that come to mind....

We'd need 25 tank shots to do the lettering.
That's 25 different people's tanks. What if 100 are submitted? We'd have 75 upset people because we didn't use their picture.
It's difficult to keep 25 people happy.
They won't be happy with their letter or the positioning in their letter.

Have we looked into the costs?
Are we just doing T-Shirts? Or, sweatshirts, polo shirts, tank-tops (hey, that's appropriate :D), ladies styles etc.?

Or, are we planning on using CafePress http://www.cafepress.com/psas ?
What happened to the link on our website?

I like the way the corals flow from one letter to the next. IMO if we use 25 different shots there wont be alot of any one coral to look at. Ive ordered a couple things from Cafe press and was quite satisfied with the quality. My T-shirt is Hanes (i believe) and my clock is well worth the $13 I paid. Im not sure how CP works but I would guess that none of us wants to become a mechandise shipper. Also, I doubt the club can afford to mass produce a bunch of sweaters and shirts and then get stuck with them if sales are a flop. I believe that using CP would aleviate this. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree with Duanne, I have a feeling the effect will not be as cool using a different picture for each letter, I was just thinking that having 25 members pictures included would help sell shirts (maybe guarantee at least 25 sales). So I am open for suggestions here. I like playing with photoshop, I am still learning how to use the program so having a project to work on inspires me to figure things out (or at least talk my son in to showing me new tricks:D)

As far as using Cafe press, here are my thoughts:

I know my son uses them to sell stuff, but he make very little on each sale. I spent about $50 on some of his stuff and he made like $4.27. Also, even though I am his mom, it took me a while to go there and buy some things and then it seemed the shipping added a lot to the price. Anybody know how much the club gets from the sale of a shirt?

My original thought when I brought up this idea was for the club to buy the shirts to have at meetings to sell. I have been looking at Vista Print. Their introductory price is $4.74 per shirt. I was thinking if we ordered 50, which would be around $250 and then sold them for $15.00 each we could bring in about $500. I think actually having the shirt there would inspire more impulse sales. If we end up with shirts left we can always throw them into the picnic raffle next year.

I am open to changing directions here or bagging the idea altogether and just sticking with what we currently offer through cafe press.

Let me know your thoughts!

Very good points. I couldnt agree more about impulse buys. I never thought of simply having them at the meetings.

Also, a beautiful as Stevens tank is/was. I think we should get a pic that has colors that really pop. Maybe we can talk Rick (blazer88) into donating something he has in his photography collection for our cause. He is very good with FTS.

I agree with needing some pictures where the colors pop. As I was copying pictures posted in a thread there was not much I could do with them in photoshop. To really manipulate the pictures they need to be in raw format. For example the photo I used for the back of the card design was originally purple jellyfish and I was able to swing the color to red in order to blend better with the front of the card. The photos I used for the prototype here are rather low quality (no offense meant here Steven, the tank was beautiful) so much so that when I was trying to upload to Vista Press in order to get some accurate cost on 50 shirts, shipped, I kept running into issues (not enough dpi, etc) due to the quality that preventing me from getting to just confirming the cost.

So is anybody close with Rick (BLAZER88)? Would he work for advertising? Does he do photography as a business?

My son also does excellent photography (he is trying to make a living off of it (read starving artist)); however, my tank just isn't very photo worthy (I am still figuring things out and just getting my coral to color up). He took the pictures that I have used in my avitar, both present and past. I am sure for some advertising on our website I can talk my son into doing some photos both for the website and the t-shirt, we would just need to find a good tank to take some pictures. You can check out his work here http://www.flickr.com/photos/tuldas/

Otherwise, I can also try using something from stockphotos or other websites that have no restrictions on usage.

I hope no one does not mind if I get a Polo made up? It will have PSAS on it. It will be pretty basic.
