My powder blue tang has what looks like a small white worm protruding from his eye any suggestions on that to do?
The fish is in a reef tank. I have had it for about 3 weeks. It eats like a maniac, swims fine, by all other signs is healthy as a horse. I gave him a short fresh water dip yesterday but really no sign of improvement. Eye is not cloudy or anything. My water is good and I had it checked yesterday. I actually took the fish to LFS and they believed it to be a worm. One person actually suggested using tweezers to remove the worm although I think that is a last resort. I hope this helps. Unfortunately I do not have a holding tank and yes I know I should get one.

Irky,

1st... WELCOME TO REEF FRONTIERS!!! :D :D :D

Lee is amazing with his knowledge on how to cure & protect our fishes. Try and get him a good picture of your tang, and attach that here for him to see for himself what you are seeing.

You may also want to read his thread here, so you can start collecting some of the other information about your system he may need to know to help best treat your fish:

Good luck, and again Welcome!!! :D

WELCOME TO REEF FRONTIERS!

I'm not sure about being "amazing" or not. :D

Without further information I'd suggest a series of Formalin baths, according to this reference: Formalin Treatment by Terry D. Barteleme

Next attempt would be the use of an organophosphate treatment; final attempt would be the removal of the 'worm' with tweezers. This last effort would best be done on the fish after putting it to sleep (anesthetizing the fish). Each of the two treatments needs a hospital tank. It would be worth getting one of these since then you can use it as a quarantine tank to prevent these kinds of parasites from getting into the marine system.

To decide which is best: Formalin treatment or organophosphate, I'd need some very clear, up close photos of what it is you see.
