Hi all,

Well, in about 5 weeks, I will be moving into my new house. :)

Until tonight... I was planning on putting my tank in the Family room... but since that joins the Garage... I'm thinking a framed 180 gallon picture tank would look really nice... with the tank leaning into the garage.

Anyone have any things I should concider BEFORE commiting myself to this project... good or bad???

All of your input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!

Hey Ed thats what I am in the process of doing however mine is upstairs with a closet on the other side, check out my thread (my 100 gallon in wall project)
the main thing to consider is: is the wall load bearing? and then I think the next most critical being in the garage would be temperature control. you might need a strong heater for winter and a good chiller for summer...

let me know if you need help with some ideas..

Matt

Matt,

Just finished looking at your pictures also. *grinz*

The wall isn't load bearing... so thats a bonus! Garage is insulated, but still stays much cooler in the summer... but I do have a Pacific Coast chiller... so summer is covered. I do know that I would probably add a 3rd heater, just to be on the safe side.

I just don't see any bad with this idea... and thought I would post here knowing anything I might come up with, someone on here has already done, or thought thru... *smile*

Looks like a go to me, go to the home depot and buy some 2x4s!!

Matt
ps let me know if I could offer a hand with anything..

hehehe Thanks... I think Lowe's & Home Depot are gettin most of my paychecks for the next few months. *Grinz*

Thanks for the offer guy! When this project actually begins, I hope to keep pictures comming like you are.

The one thing to consider in any fish room, but esp the garage is the corrosive effects of the water evaporation. It may be beneficial to frame off an area of the garage with access to vent outside rather than just having the remainder of the equipment being in the garage. You would really be surprised at the effect - all most anything metal will rust.

Wohooooooo congrats on da house. Hope all goes well if I can helpjust yell bud but you know that huh

on the plus side
if water spills in the garage thats better than in the house
Its easier to add another circuit in the garage than running it thru the house
The water changes and rodi could all be routed in the garage
theres generally more extra room in the garage
If I did it again thats where I'd put it :)

Hey guy!

I kinda figure that I'll be seeing MUCH more of you once we move in. Especially since we will only be about 1/2 mile from ya! hehehe

Those are all things I have already thought of as well! Of course, just need to convince my better-half of all those good things too! hehehe

Kewl Dang!

I'm just not able to see anything unsurmountable with doing this. It frees up a 6' X 2' space in the Family Room... It will add a beautiful "Living Picture" framed in the wall... It will give me more space for sump/fuge and all my filtration...

Yes, as with any other setup, you need to plan things out... which is why I've started this thread... so all of you good people here can help me think about everything I will need to plan for! *smile*
