those pods

The basic 'pod pile' is just any collection of ??? which allows the pods to come and go but fish not to get into it. It is a protected area for the pods in a display tank with fish (that eat pods).

Often it is made up of LR rubble arranged so fish can't move it, 'blow it away' or get into it. They can include cemented/glued together pieces for those displays with more aggressive fishes, or just a loose pile of rubble.

The pile protects the pods from predation. Pods can live, reproduce and be safe in the pile, then when they venture out, the pod-eating fishes will hunt them down.

You can get real creative. It doesn't have to be LR or dead coral, it can be artificial. You can use plastic netting, a plastic colander, or any salt-water safe barrier to keep the fish out but let the pods go through it.

Whether you need one or not may be a different question. :)
