thoughts on uv sterilizers?

what are some of the pros and cons of using uv sterilizers in a reef tank?

i am considering purchasing one for my 14g biocube housing mostly softies, for the purpose of preventing/eliminating algae growth and unwanted pathogens.

what do my fellow reefers think of these devices and have they had any success using them?
