Too MUCH lighting??????

Is there such a thing as too much lighting. I currently run 2 96w sunpaq dual actinic, and 1 250 wmetal halide. However I have another power compact setup that I plan to add to a custom built hood. My tank dimensions are 36" long, 18" front to back, and 24 " from top to bottom. So I guess what I am asking is can I add 2 more 96w PC to my tank. Without worrying about other modifications like chiller's. It would bring it to around 9 watts per gallon but my tank is a little taller then the average and may need the extra light. I am currently housing a few softies and a few LPS.

that by no means will be too much lighting, I run two 400 watt 10k halides on my 30''x30'' cube with great success...
