Its a good news, bad news kind of day. We were just informed that Tunze will no longer be carrying their salt mix. Shipping costs and logistics became too much of an issue.

Since Tunze had been out of stock for over a month we began researching other salt options. Kent Reef Salt is hugely popular down in Oregon so I brought some in and we began experimenting with it. We have been using it, for one month, on one servicing account with SPS, Softies, Anemones, and LPS as well as our NEO Nano tank that houses all of the above plus clams. We have not noticed any visible changes since changing over from Tunze. One great aspect of this salt is cost. The 200 gallon mix box retails for $49.99 and holds four 50 gallon mix bags. Further, there should be fewer lapses in availability as it is distributed locally. We will have it in stock starting next week.

Here are our test results-

Kent Reef Salt Mix (tested with Elos test kits)

Specific Gravity - 1.023
Alkalinity - 8.5 dKH
Calcium - 460
Magnesium - 1250
Phosphate - 0

I have been using the Kent reef salt since I began in saltwater and have had no problems. Good salt at a good price.

But I do live in Oregon so maybe that has somthing to do with it LOL

Q? With cal and mag levels listed does this cause precipt to occure? Just seems low for mag balance.

I have never had a problem. Disolves quickly and has never had any precipitation. It also has a good mix of trace elements for corals and inverts.
