Using Kalk Paste?

Got me a little clump of Bubble Algae in my DT. Had high hopes it wouldn't escape from my sump/fuge, no such luck.
So I mixed a nice thick dollop of Kalk Paste, removed the rock and applied it to the BA. Waited for a few, then with all flow turned off returned it to the tank. Waited 20min before turning all flow back on. The paste has stayed in place.

I've decided to put off my regular dosing for 24hrs. Question, what do I need to look out for if anything ALK/ca/ph wise from the paste?

When I use a kalk paste on aptasias, I do as you did and turn off the flow in the tank.
Apply the kalk paste and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
Then I use the python hose and suck out as much of the kalk paste as possible.
I've had kalk paste float around the tank and land of corals and burn them.

If I were you, I would try and remove whatever is left in the tank.

You may get a slight amount of alk/ca from it being in the tank, but I wouldn't be too worried, as it wasn't mixed up in the water the way you would if you were mixing it up to collect the kalkwasser water.

Also, I've never heard of using this method of battling bubble algae.
Have you done this before?


I would test and see what the alk/ca levels are on your regular dosing schedule, There may not be a change.

No, never used it on bubble algae before. I'm about to take the rock out an see the results.

Update: The bubble algae was almost completely white. Using a teaspoon/toothbrush all algae and paste were removed, rinsed well in FW. Rock is back in the tank.

Ya I use picking lime myself for this.
Idk I'm sure alk spikes but prob not long enough to effect any thing. I also get the burnt coral from the particles.
Most ppl r using hydrogen peroxide for HA. I've always been told to remove BA without popping it.

kalk paste will kill just about anything. I've hit the spot where bubble algae was with it when I've removed it on occasion. I don't know if it does anything or not, but whatever remained in that spot after being covered with kalk paste deserved to live.
you mean pH D, not alk, right?
