Question can you use a uv in a reef system without any side affects?
So besides loss of pods does it adversely affect the right type of allege growth in a reef system? what are the basic benefits?

What do you mean by side effects. I use one on all my systems. I know I lose some pods and such and the like but its a just in case thing. I have heard that it can make your fishes immune system weaker by not having any threats in the tank, my opinion on that is oh well. I would rather not have any threats in my tank.

Two thumbs up.

Sure...a few bacteria and other good things will get nuked. However, the benefits DEFINATELY outweigh the detriments IMO.

Just remember the pods have to travel throught the unit in order for it to effect them.

Here is a link to more information: UV Sterilizer Overview. Post more questions as they arise!

Hope this helps!
